"Nothing is more important than feeling good" "Everything is unfolding perfectly according to a divine plan, even when we can't see it." |
Musings on "The Secret" Finding "The Secret" on "Oprah After the Show" I was strolling through the channels last night thinking that I should just turn the darn thing off and hit the hay when I happened on "Oprah After the Show" on Oxygen. (I didn't even think this was still on the air!) Having seen the other two shows, I was amazed that it was the show after talking about "The Secret." I, of course, was glued to my to my chair as soon as I realized what I was watching. (Suddenly sleep was irrelevant...) While none of this stuff is new to me, it is still SO ASTOUNDING to hear anyone actually talking about this in a mainstream way. I can hardly believe it! For years and years, we have been searching for ways to get this information into the mainstream that it is shocking to sit back and watch it happen. It’s amazing. While I admit that part of me is envious of the teachers sitting up there getting to "tell all" on Oprah (it could be me up there afterall!), the other part of me is jumping up and down with joy. This is EXACTLY what we've all been talking about for years. And it is exactly what Joe and I was thinking when we first decided to open the doors to our Center back in 2002. I remember the conversation as clear as day. We were driving back from yet another trip from DC and I was talking about how I interpreted what is called my Birth Wheel... Explanation of a Birth Wheel For those who don't know, there is an amazing author by the name of Caroline Myss who has been one of the most important teachers in my life, even though I have yet to meet her in person. She has published several books (including audio books) including Energy Anatomy and Advanced Energy Anatomy (absolute MUSTs for anyone doing energy work), and a book called Sacred Contracts. In Sacred Contracts, she talks about how we are so much MORE than what is expressed in our physical lives. That we are connected to a higher self who is constantly interacting with us. It discusses the differences between free will, divine will, and destiny. The premise of the book is based on the idea that we are immortal, creative, spiritual beings choosing to have a physical experience. We do this so this for basically 2 reasons. 1) To develop spiritually and 2) to create! It is all based on the idea that we are immortal and that we live not just one life (as most of us have been led to believe), but that we live lifetime after lifetime after lifetime until we finally "get it right." (I like to think of it as something like Bill Murray's character in Groundhog Day.) So as we review each lifetime, we take on sort of tasks in the next lifetime that we agree to before we are born. These tasks, which she calls Sacred Contracts, are not jobs. They are lessons. For instance, you may be someone who, like Jesus, contracted to learn forgiveness. So you draw to you one person after another who betrays you until you finally learn the lesson (which is ultimately non-judgment) and then you ascend up the scale of consciousness. Job well done. Her assertion is that we are all born with these sacred contracts in tow and they play a huge role in determining our destiny. Anyway, she offers a tool by which you can determine what your sacred contracts are in this lifetime through a process that results in creating a Birth Wheel. It was, for me at least, an excruciating and exhilarating process that took me two weeks of sitting on the bed crying while I truly learned who I was and why I was here. It lead me from a dark night into truly knowing who I was and why I am here on earth in a way that changed who I am. If any of you have ever been to the Center, you'll see a copy of my birth wheel framed and sitting on my back counter. Anyone who knows how to read them can look at it and know who I AM and why I am here. What it Means to Me Even after casting my birth wheel, it took me a week or two to really understand what it was saying to me. But when I was done, I KNEW that I had it right. My purpose in this lifetime is to act as a visionary and a guide, using my talents as a teacher and a healer, to bring people to awareness that there is no such thing as a victim. That we are ALL creating our own lives (every bit of it, no exceptions), whether we are doing it consciously or unconsciously. Moreover, I learned from casting my Birth Wheel that this is the lesson that I am to both master and teach as part of my work here on Mother Earth. Moreover, this was the very purpose of our Center. Back to my Story Which brings me back to my story. So I remember sitting there in the car, talking. It was one of those great conversations where you are both on the same page. You hear each other way beyond the words being spoken. You are one in that moment. One in thought. One in purpose. And we both knew what we needed to do. It was during that conversation when the name of the center descended on us out of the blue. The Self-Health and Awareness Center. We had never even heard the term Self-Health before, but we knew that was what we were doing. It was about helping people to do it themselves. We were the guides. The teachers. The conduits. It was our work to bring people to an understanding of their own power to heal, to create, to know who they were. That was why we were here. Learning about Law of Attraction for the First Time Interestingly, at that time, we were really just fledglings with this whole concept of Law of Attraction ourselves. I think I had first heard of it the weekend I first met Joe. It was literally the most amazing weekend of my life so far. It is the only weekend thus far in my life where I was in complete bliss. I honestly was off the ground with joy. I had stepped into my destiny that weekend. Meeting Joe was a big part of it, but it was much more than that. I had truly found my spiritual core, which was ultimately to create this Center. I remember hearing Reverend Reed Brown (another of my great teachers and founder of the United Metaphysical Churches) talking about it. It was a shocking concept, but I knew even then it was important. Grasping the Full Implications of Law of Attraction Later, I was listening to one of Carolyn Myss' tapes when I first really grasped the full weight of the Law of Attraction. At first it pissed me off because I HATED the idea that I had to take responsibility for my whole life. WORSE, I had lived my whole life thinking that I was a victim and my mind was just not willing to give that up without a fight. I was very busy blaming my parents and my schools and my siblings and my hometown and my church and God and God and God and did I say God? Whomever I could find who did not make me the absolute center of their universe and dote on me to make sure that I was free from pain was certainly a target. Afterall, I couldn't be responsible for this? I would have never CONSCIOUSLY created the life I was living. So it must be someone else's fault. The question, though, was who? And how was I going to manipulate them into making me the priority in their lives? (This, by the way, is the basis of almost every religious dogma on earth right now. It gives us an instruction book on how to please God so that God will deem you special and give you things.) So the idea that I WAS THE CREATOR of my own reality was enough to elicit fightin’ words. It was enough to get me to turn off the tape player and go about my way for a few days vowing never to listen to that crackpot again. And yet, once the idea was in there, it grabbed on by my collar and held on tight. I was not to be set free until I was willing to give up my days as a victim and begin living the life of my own conscious creation. I realize now that it was my destiny. It was part of my contract. It was not to be denied. Long-Term Students Since then, we have set about the work of applying this law in our own lives. It has proven both challenging and wonderful. You can see the moments when it has clearly worked and you can feel when you are out of alignment with your desires. For me, the hardest part has been financial. Years of habitual worry (generational worry nonetheless less) have manifested as a full-fledged challenge to keep my mind on what I want and off of the worry. I find it easiest to be excited over small victories and focus on that for which I am grateful. We are fortunate to have been introduced to some very important leaders along the way. The ones who have had the greatest impact are perhaps Abraham-Hicks. We constantly refer back to their materials to remind ourselves when things go array. We often refer clients to the more mainstream "cliff notes" of their work as put together by Lynn Grabhorn in her best-selling work entitled, "Excuse Me Your Life is Waiting." We are also big fans of Napoleon Hill's class, "Think and Grow Rich" and "The Science of Getting Rich" by Wallace Wattles. They have all had tremendous impact on our lives. Even Larger Implications of Law of Attraction It wasn't until much later that I realized that it is part of the social contract on earth right now. We have ALL agreed to shift into conscious creation. It is part of the 2012 earth changes that we all keep talking about. You see the earth herself is moving into a higher vibration. She is shaking off the tentacles of fear and victimization for the higher vibration of pure love and conscious creation. Part of that is remembering "God is Love." And if God IS LOVE, God can't also be fear. So ultimately all that lacks truth or integrity is going away. For that to happen, WE must shift from a world where we are victims of a cruel and vindictive God to understanding that WE are responsible for our own happiness or unhappiness based on our alignment with universal law. Law of Gravity I think the easiest way to explain this is to use the Law of Gravity. Let's say that none of us understood the Law of Gravity and we didn't understand that it was a Universal Law so we didn't live by it. So you go around jumping out of windows. Time after time, you fall to the ground. And each time, if you didn't understand that there was a law of gravity, you might think, hmmm, what did I do wrong? Am I bad person who is being punished? Why do I constantly fall down? Maybe if I'm a better person, God will show me favor and I won't fall down anymore. But then you look around and EVERYONE is falling down. And you think, we must all be bad! God must be punishing ALL of us! We must repent! We must work harder to please God. Until you happen upon the Law of Gravity and then you realize that God isn't the issue at all. YOU ARE. YOU are not living in accordance with a simple, but completely real law. That doesn't make you bad. It just means that you didn't understand. And when you learn about the law and you realize that it is am impersonal law that applies equally to everyone, then everything changes. You can make choices that align with the law and create a better, more comfortable life for yourself. Law of Attraction Works the Same Way Law of Attraction works the same way. It applies to all of us all of the time. It doesn't matter if you are a good person or a bad person. If you work in accordance with the law, you will create the desired outcome. If you work against the law, you will get a different outcome. It is law. The problem is that most of us have been going throughout life NOT knowing about it, so it was hard to work in accordance with it. It is a jolting moment when you realize that your suffering is not the reaction of a whimsical, punishing God. Rather our life is a result of the degree to which we align with this law. Suffering doesn't mean you are bad. It just means you haven't known the rules. Taking Back our Power Once you finally understand that you are not a victim, you've simply didn't know the rules, you eventually come to the most powerful realization of all. Not only are we NOT victims, WE ARE CREATORS. By working in accordance with the laws of the universe, we take on the awesome responsibility of creating our own reality and there is no going back. On some level, we now understand what it meant that we are "made in the image and likeness of God". We now understand the passage, 'Be Still and Know that I AM God." We now understand that we are here as an expression of God on earth. We are God (the Creator) incarnate. Becoming Creators The way I see it, we on earth are moving from being spiritual children to being spiritual adults. We are moving into our role as conscious creators. We are little Gods in training. And much the way that some people find it hard to move away from mom and dad and start life as an adult, some people resist the idea of moving into spiritual adulthood. It is, afterall, a daunting task. We will all make mistakes along the way (we are in duality afterall) and we will have to be, like God, impersonal, all-loving, and all forgiving, knowing that falling down is just a part of learning how to walk. You just pick yourself up, shake it off, and go about trying again. Eventually, we will all learn that as long as we choose to blame our lives on external people or circumstances, we can never find true happiness. It is only when we look to the Godself within, and begin to take responsibility for our choices, which include our thoughts and emotions, that we can move beyond being the victim. . The Fall of Victimization So this brings me back to the purpose of my email. For years, those of us who consider ourselves lightworkers have been talking about a time when victim consciousness would simply melt away and the world would spontaneously move into spiritual adulthood. We talked about how it will be like the fall of communism in Russia and Germany. We saw small chips in the armor but didn't realize that the chips would finally culminate in such a way that communism essentially fell in about 3 days. The wall had come down and the world was changed. We knew that victim consciousness would be the same way, we just didn't know when and how that would happen. In the meantime, we have all been quietly chipping away the pieces, teaching Law of Attraction and Conscious Creation to everyone who would listen. And then one day it happens. You hear about this movie called "The Secret." And you think, hmmm, this is interesting. And you wonder if anyone will listen when you tell them about it. And then you hear the rumblings in the background. And then people you KNOW were living in victim consciousness a week ago come up and start telling you about it. And then the next thing you know, you hear that Larry King is doing a show on it. Hmmm. A crack in the wall. And then the unthinkable. Oprah is doing a whole show on it. The wall was about to come down and you knew it. And then you hear that she's doing a follow-up show a few days later. And then you hear that Ellen Degeneres is doing a show and then Newsweek is putting it on the cover... It had happened. The world had changed in a matter of hours. Light bulbs are going off all over the world as people hear the Secret of conscious creation for the first time. You can literally SEE the recognition when they first get it as if they have known it their whole lives. And then you see the mixed emotions. The anger, the denial, the regret, as the old life passes away. It’s the kind of thing that once you hear it, you are changed. You can never go back. Critical Mass And for those of us watching from the sidelines, the lightworkers tasked with participating in this great shift, we see it with wonder and gratitude. WE KNOW that critical mass has been reached. We KNOW that the shifts so clearly outlined for 2012 are indeed playing out as promised. It is an exciting time to be conscious on earth. It is an exacting time to be alive. And we are grateful. Welcome to the Golden Age. © Deborah Lindsey, 2/25/07 |
