What is the Self-Health and Awareness Expo?

What is consciousness? What is reality? Who are we and why are we here? Is magic possible? Are fairies real? What are ghosts? Do UFOs really exist?  We’d like to know! At the Self-Health and Awareness Expo, people are coming together to spend 2 fun-filled, inspiring, exciting, wonderful days exploring questions just like this.

At its essence, the expo is about exploring new paradigms in body, mind, and spirit. It’s an exploration of who we are, why we're here, and how we can make the most of it. It is also an awesome opportunity for our community to come together to learn and grow and to have a really good time.

Join us for classes, exhibits, art, music, and fun as we explore life’s deepest, most enriching questions. Learn from experts from all over the country on a wide variety of subjects, including keynote speeches by Tapas Fleming, Rosemary Guiley, and Mechi Garza. Peruse the many exciting exhibits to purchase those hard to find items, enjoy a massage or reiki treatment, or delve into the mystical with a psychic reading. Whatever you're looking for, you can find it at the Self Health and Awareness Expo!

Where, When, and How Much?

The expo will take place on October 29th and 30th, just in time for Halloween! Events will take place in the main building at West Virginia University at Parkersburg. This new location allows us room for as many as 50 booths plus each vendor will have lots of room to display their wares.

The new location offers another great benefit—College Students! More than 6,000 students currently attend WVU-P and we expect lots of the to come to the Expo. In fact, WVU-P is co-sponsoring the event in association with WVU-P professor Phil McClung, who is head of the psychology department and teacher of the school's very popular class in parapsychology. We even have students who will be able to help us out during the day, acting as booth sitters on occasion and offering vendors the rare opportunity to get away and catch the occasional workshop.

Attendees will be able to attend for only $8! WVU-P Students and children age 7-17 can attend for $6. Anyone who visits Mystic Dragon Books at 6250 Grand Central Avenue can pick up a coupon to receive $2 off entry!

Who Should Participate?

Healthcare practitioners, retailers, artisans, authors, spiritual teachers or groups, psychic readers, and the like are encouraged to participate in the expo. If you’re product or service is in any way related to the development of the mind, body, or spirit, then this is the place for you.

Much of our attention will be on offering workshops on alternative healthcare and exploring the exciting new avenues by which people can heal. It is our intention to have information available on as many modalities as possible. If you’re a healthcare practitioner interested in teaching about what you offer, this is the place to be.

The expo is also a great place for those wishing to tap into the large audience of people interested in the mystical. This audience, which is comprised largely of women, makes up a significant portion of today’s buying public. Retailers who offer products like candles, books, meditation supplies, incense, crystals, jewelry, or interesting clothes. Those offering personal care services like spas, hair salons, fitness centers, or weight loss programs, will also be hitting a targeted market.

Accommodations

After visiting many of the local motels, we recommend staying at the Red Roof Inn on 3714 East 7th Street in Parkersburg, WV 26105, located just off Rt. 50 and only minutes from WVU-P. It offers easy access to the highway and has several restaurants within walking distance. The rooms, which are recently renovated, have 2 double beds or 1 king bed, and are nicely decorated. The rooms with 2 double beds also have a microwave and refrigerator (be sure to request them when making your reservations). If you mention the Self-Health and Awareness Expo, rooms are available for only $42.99 a night plus tax. Call 304-485-1741 to make your reservations.

Directions

To get to WVU-P, take I-77 to exit 174, State Route 47, then follow the signs to WVU-P. Once you enter the main building (its obvious which one that is), signs will be set up to direct you. Vendors are located in the multi-purpose room while workshops will take place in the adjacent classrooms and in the College Theatre.
