Was Jesus A Psychic?
By Deborah Lindsey

For as long as I can remember, no one talked about psychics in public. We’d all talk about it behind the silent, locked doors of our own homes, but rarely did anyone have the chutzpah to actually talk about it in public. And if you went to see a psychic, you’d be very careful who you told about it. After all, the Bible says that it’s wrong to go to psychics, right?

Depending on which translation you choose, mediums, psychics, and wizards are decried between 5 and 13 times in the Bible, all of them in the Old Testament.

And yet, I was struck by what I saw at a recent viewing of Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of Christ.” In one very poignant scene at the Last Supper Jesus clearly prophesizes what is to come. He tells the Disciples that one of them will betray him and that he is soon to be killed. Later, in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus tells Peter that he will “deny him 3 times before the sun goes down”.

Lets face it—Jesus was a psychic. He heard the voice of the divine and was able to foretell the future with great accuracy. He gave psychic readings with great frequency. He even used his powers to heal, including the raising of the dead.

And that begs the question, “As Christians, which is more important—to follow the Bible or to follow Jesus?” If the Bible says NOT to go to psychics but Jesus WAS a psychic, do we follow the example set by Jesus or do we follow the words of those who wrote the Bible even if they contradict the teachings of Jesus himself?

Paradoxically, the Bible is also filled with stories of prophecies and visions…of dreams and visits from angels. Moses was “given” the Ten Commandments directly from God; Angels appear with messages on as many as 200 different occasions throughout the Bible; More than 50 messages are communicated through dreams; And more than 20 different visions of prophecy are proclaimed.

So here’s what I want to know, if Jesus was the son of God and Jesus was a psychic and Christians follow the example of Jesus, why do so many people continue to admonish psychics? Jesus himself is quoted as saying that “anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done and greater.” Wouldn’t this include communicating with the divine?

It’s interesting to me that the public fascination with psychics has reached an all time high. Nowadays, you can hardly turn on the TV without seeing John Edwards or Sylvia Browne or Sonia Fitzpatrick. Channel after channel offers programs about people with psychic powers. We have Early Edition where one man gets a newspaper that can tell the future, Joan of Arcadia where a teenage high school student has regular visits with God him/herself, and many, many programs depicting psychics and their contributions to society.

It’s interesting to me that the public fascination with psychics has reached an all time high. Nowadays, you can hardly turn on the TV without seeing John Edwards or Sylvia Browne or James Van Praagh. Channel after channel offers programs about people with psychic powers. We even have shows like Medium and Ghost Whisperer on prime time.

Perhaps this is an indication that the time has come in our evolution when we are ready to embrace our own psychic and intuitive abilities and follow the example set by Jesus. (For that matter, Buddha, Krishna, and Mohammed were all psychic as well.)

I believe that each of us is gifted with psychic and intuitive powers. Think about it, have you ever known who was calling before you picked up the phone? Or known that the phone was going to ring before it did? Have you ever been thinking about someone and they call a few minutes later? Have you ever had a feeling in your gut that you should take a different route to work today or heard a voice whisper in your ear late at night? Have you ever just known something without any evidence that it was so? Or felt the presence of a loved one by your side or smelled their fragrance without explanation? Have you ever dreamed of something only to have it come true?

These are all examples of psychic or intuitive powers that we all have inside of us. But most of us choose to think that it is a weird coincidence or “just our imagination.” But have you ever wondered what would happen if we allowed ourselves to really develop our intuition? Is it possible that we are receiving guidance every day and that we could tap into that guidance to live fuller, happier lives? Is it possible that, like Jesus, we could communicate directly with the Source itself? Perhaps we could communicate telepathically with each other over long distances? And what of animals? Is it possible to communicate with the animals through our intuitive thoughts and feelings? The possibilities are both fascinating and endless.

Are you ready to embrace the psychic inside of you?
